Calendar of Life

What a busy and eventful year this has been.  I am a “calendar saver” meaning I save calendars as you would photo albums.  It’s true that many have turned to technology and use the electronic kind, but  I personally love the old-fashioned, hang-on-the-wall-with-a-push-pin style.

I love looking back at old calendars to see what was happening in my life during that year.  Obviously, some years have more memorable events like births, weddings, and graduations, but each year has its own special meaning like a special place visited, and special memories made.

It’s also true that certain months have more noteworthy events than others. Some months were filled with a huge amount of commitments, while others seem almost completely void of anything at all.  I know something must have happened during those months, but I guess none noteworthy enough to make “the calendar”.

I remember hearing a sermon some years ago about how each box on the calendar represents 24 hours of our life.  To me, it seems sad that some of the boxes on my calendar are blank.  There is no way to get that day back, so what in the world did I do with it?   Let’s fill our boxes wisely and with meaningful, loving actions.  Let’s be purposeful in whatever we do, making each day an important, noteworthy box on the calendar we call life.

In Psalm 139 it is written that God knows each and every one of us, He really knows us.  He formed our inward parts.   He covered us in our mother’s womb and we are fearfully and wonderfully made.

“All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.”  Psalm 139:16

I’d say if all of my days have been ordained by the Living God and written in His book, I should not take any of them for granted; each day is as important as the next.

We can make each day memorable and purposeful and what better time to begin?

“The Lord will fulfill His purpose for me; your love O Lord, endures forever…”  Psalm 138:8

May the Lord bring joy, peace, hope, and abundant blessings, as we fill our calendar of life;
encouraging others and serving Him….
