Lessons From My Vacuum

Does anyone else have a love/hate relationship with their vacuum?

I know it sounds strange, but let’s explore this relationship, shall we?

Here’s what I love about my vacuum:

  • It inhales dust and dirt from my carpet, so grandkids rolling on the floor don’t have to.
  • It’s ready when I am, just plug it in and flip the switch. No lines, no waiting.
  • It has cool attachments to reach into places I dare not go. You know the places.

Those features are great, but here’s what I don’t love about my vacuum. I can’t use the word hate, since I tell the grandkids it’s a bad word.

Ok, here goes. Here’s what I dislike about my vacuum:

  • It sometimes feels as though it’s running me instead of me running it.

Uh oh, reality check. Like when I try to run things my way instead of God’s way?

  • It has a cord that possibly reaches from Florida to Connecticut. It’s nice to be far-reaching, but it gets tangled around all kinds of legs: table legs; chair legs; my legs.

Kind of like my tangled messes, and my mama cord wrapping around everybody’s legs a little too tightly?

  • Its plug constantly disconnects itself from the wall socket.

Sort of how life gets busy and I feel disconnected from my power source. The Holy Spirit.

It’s humbling to realize I’ve been guilty of the same offenses as my vacuum.

Can any of you relate?

So thankful Jesus paid the price so the dirt of my sins could be vacuumed away, forgiven, gone.

Mercy and grace. My Bissell can’t compete with that.

The dirt devil had better watch out.

“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all                          unrighteousness.”          1 John 1:9
I think I’ll be looking at vacuuming in a whole new Light, how about you?

Love In the Lord, our power source. Let’s stay plugged-in.
