Can Your Dream Really Come True?

What if your most precious dream, the one you’ve kept locked inside your heart for years, really came true?

As a young girl, I dreamed of becoming a ballerina. Actually, I didn’t even know what a ballerina was until my neighbor, Mary Louise, dressed in a dance costume and invited me over to take pictures with her. I think it was her mom who made her do it, as ML was older and I suspect she wasn’t crazy about me hanging around.  That was the beginning of my ballet obsession.

Did I earn a starring role as Clara in the Nutcracker?

Um, no. Not even close–and that’s okay. I’m not ballerina material. But you know what? At 55 I pulled on dance tights and slipped into pink ballet slippers and danced in a recital. Yes, yes I did. See…

But realistically, I knew this dance thing wasn’t going any further than just plain fun. Plus, it’s great exercise but becoming a ballerina was never in my DNA. I share this to tell you it’s okay to get a taste of something you love without it being your actual thing. You know what I mean?

So that thing, it’s your realistic dream–the one God put on your heart. The one that can really happen if you take the steps in the right direction. For you, it could be the ballerina thing but whatever it is, you’ve got it.

Take me for example, I love writing and I feel called to write books. But I’ll let you in on a little secret; it’s not about the books and it’s not about the publishing contract. Those are my goals and they are fantastic goals but there’s a difference between my goals and my dream…

  • My dream is to send a message of hope into a world filled with fake news and tragic stories.
  • My dream is to see lives changed when words on a page grab hold of hurting hearts.
  • My dream is to serve up encouragement when discouragement seems the norm.

But enough about me, how about you? What is your realistic dream?

There is an awesome scripture that tells us God gives us the desires of our heart. Did you catch that, though? It says He gives us the desires of our heart, not our heart’s desires.  He blesses us and knows what’s best for us. He provides all that we need. Jeremiah 17:9 tells us we pretty much can’t trust our own hearts so let’s take whatever God is giving out. What will bless, is when our desires align with our Jeremiah 29:11 plans He has for us.

These desires go way beyond material possessions–these desires are embedded on the inside. They are dreams longing to be lived out.

What can we do to move along in the dream-come-true department?

  • Pray for God to supernaturally unclog the pipes of creativity and bring forth clarity
  • Set attainable, step-by-step goals according to His leading
  • Invite friends to be your accountability partners–friends don’t let friends miss their dreams
  • Whatever your dream is, follow blogs of those who have gone before you in this dream thing. You can follow for free and probably get some cool freebies as well.
  • If you stopped to read this I invite you to follow my blog right here (to find out how and grab the cool freebie look for it at the end of the post 😉 If you already follow, thank you, friend!)

It’s within your reach so be sure to grab it before it slips away. God wants to give you the desires of your heart so ask Him what His plan is for you and how you can do your part to make it happen.

You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream. — C.S. Lewis

Don’t you love that quote? If you have a dream I’d love to hear about it. If you’ve realized a dream, I’d love to hear about that, too. When we dream-share we encourage others to keep moving forward.

Blessings and Sweet Dreams,

Doris

“Delight yourself in the LORD; And He will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the LORD, Trust also in Him, and He will do it.” Psalm 37:4-5 NASB

Very true, we aren’t to old to dream, and they come true.

I find myself smiling, Doris…firstly, for the Truth if God’s Word, but also that as a 30-something, I took a ballet class with a friend “for exercise.” We had such fun and were so terrible. But we took ballet and loved it. I can see us flying across the room and leaping like we were the best!! I am grateful that God knows our true gifts and dreams and draws those to the surface.

Love it, Linda! A ballet sister 🙂 Yes, grateful for God knowing our true gifts and dreams as you said. Also grateful that a merry heart does good like a medicine. I’m sure you and your friend were just lovely, or at least God thought so! Blessings, friend!
