What have we learned from past mistakes?
Hopefully we’ve learned not to repeat them, but before we can learn from them, we need to admit we’ve made them. Once we do that, without placing blame on everyone and everything else, we can confess it out, be forgiven by God and forgive ourselves.
Yet there are times we dwell. We ponder. We rewind and rerun tapes within our minds.
Let’s remember, good memories can bring joy and recalling them is pleasing to the soul.
But the memories of past mistakes can bring sadness, heartache, and anxiety. We may have made unhealthy, and unwise choices then, but we can make healthy and wise choices now.
Let’s turn our heads from looking back, and keep looking ahead. Let’s be good stewards of the time God has given us.
Because dwelling on past mistakes is a mistake.
It will free us when we stop unhealthy thoughts that begin with:
“If only I would have…”
“I wish I hadn’t….”
“If I had only….”
And replace them with healthy thoughts that begin with:
“From now on, I will…”
“In Christ I am a new creation, the old is gone and the new has come…”
“I will not spend my current time on negative things of the past. Just as I can’t purchase something new with money already spent, I cannot buy back the past with time from the present…”
When we let go of past mistakes, we can look forward to new beginnings.
It won’t always be easy, but God is always there and He is outside of time.
I’ve made mistakes, we all have, and I suspect we may make a few more, but here’s the good news:
When we are in Christ, we are new; the old is gone, the new has come. It doesn’t mean we lose all memory of who we were before, but it does mean we are no longer bound by our past. We are free of it.
We may still be dealing with the consequences of it, but that’s part of the lesson, isn’t it?
But even though God may allow us to experience consequences, it’s not because He doesn’t love us, it’s because He does.
And even if we’ve teetered off the right path, it doesn’t mean we’ve missed the plans He has for us.
Although we may have missed out on a few blessings along the way, it doesn’t mean we can’t experience new blessings .
We may have taken a detour, but when we draw near and seek God, He reprograms our spiritual GPS back onto that right path.
It’s a new day, so let’s walk in this truth:
Do not call to mind the former things,
Or ponder things of the past.
“Behold, I will do something new,
Now it will spring forth;
Will you not be aware of it?
I will even make a roadway in the wilderness,
Rivers in the desert. Isaiah 43:18-19
God paves a roadway through our wilderness, and makes rivers in our desert, so we can experience freedom in the present and a future filled with hope.
Are we ready for the freedom of new beginnings?
Ever find yourself dwelling on past mistakes?
One of my most shared blog posts dealt with this subject. If you missed it, you can find it here.
The response to that post, as well as my own past experiences, inspired me to write a book.
I am excited to share with you the upcoming plans to launch my new gift book:
Goodbye, Regret ~ Forgiving Yourself of Past Mistakes.
As a Walking Deeper email subscriber, you encourage me greatly and I would love your feedback as I share updates and quotes from the book.
I’ll be offering freebies and surprise give-a-ways as well!
Friend, will you help me spread the news? I’m putting together a launch team to help get the word out. I’ll provide all the info you need to share on Facebook and Twitter. I’ll make it easy and launch team members will receive a free copy of the book prior to it’s release!

Love & Blessings of Peace and Joy,
Hi, my name is Doris and welcome to my blog, Walking Deeper. Thanks for visiting!
Walking Deeper is all about encouraging, equipping, and engaging women to walk deeper in faith, and in relationship with Jesus Christ. Walking Deeper is about community.
We are finding encouragement through God’s Word, and using our spiritual gifts and talents to make a difference in the world.
We all have a sphere of influence. God places us where we are for a reason.
I’m a leader in women’s ministry, writer, and speaker who loves encouraging women to flourish in their calling and purpose. God has plans for each one of us, isn’t that exciting? God knows us personally, and He is calling us to know Him.
I typically write blog posts two or three times weekly, sharing about common joys and challenges we women face every day. I encourage your comments, because you may share what someone else needs to here.
I blog about:
- Spiritual encouragement for family life, work life, and just plain life
- Ways to overcome the overwhelming through God’s Word
- Difficult seasons and circumstances, and how God carries us through
- Relevant ways to apply truth to our every-day lives
- Encouraging ways to use spiritual gifts to share God’s truth with others
I invite you to subscribe to Walking Deeper, and receive encouraging posts right to your email inbox!

As a devoted follower of Jesus, I’m passionate about discipling women of all generations by encouraging them to walk deeper in faith. As a Women’s Ministry leader and lay counselor, I am blessed to assist women in discovering and using their spiritual gifts for ministry.
Counseling and encouraging women through the Word is a joy, and we all need encouragement don’t we? I spend several days a week working on staff in our church office, and on Thursday evenings, leading a women’s Bible study/Life Group.
A wife, mom, and soccer Gammy, I stay joyfully busy. You might find me hanging out with the kids in the tree-house or shooting hoops. I love to read, travel with my awesome hubby of over 30 years, and cook for the whole gang. Not much of a baker though, but I’m working on it!
One of my favorite quotes is “You are never too old to set another goal, or to dream a new dream.” ~ C.S. Lewis
My joy is to speak and encourage women through the gospel of Jesus Christ.
I’m available for speaking engagements, including women’s conferences and retreats. Message me through my contact page for more information.
